From Cliff to Shore Resized
2021
51″ high x 30″ wide
Photography by Douglas Sandberg

Part of my Headlands series, this quilt aims for an abstract, minimalist interplay of the colors seen along a precipitous, mile-long trail to Kirby Cove in California’s Marin Headlands. The greens of cypress, eucalyptus, and pine … the tawny hue of sand … the blues of ocean and sky … are evocative, for me, of the dry season … but intriguing (I hope) whether viewers know the region or not. Undulating stitching draws the eye across the quilt, suggesting wind and waves.
