My quilt Ombré Green has been accepted in The Artist’s Vision exhibition being mounted by the MVA Gallery in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, this summer. A national open-call show for artwork in any theme, style and subject matter, The Artist’s Vision runs July 5–31, 2023.

Ombré Green <link to appropriate page> is a celebration of golden-rectangle proportions. Both the inner rectangle (constructed with green shot cottons and a pop of a Marcia Derse fabric) and the overall quilt (cut from ombré yardage) roughly approximate golden rectangles.

I am awed and honored that my quilt “Urban Twilight” has been juried into The De Young Open, an exhibition featuring 880 works of art by 763 Bay Area artists. The show will fill the 12,000 square-foot Herbst Exhibition Gallery with paintings, drawings, prints, digital art, photographs, sculpture, fiber art and video when the museum reopens.

While the opening date is still to be determined, here’s a link where you can subscribe to emailings about exhibition updates.

After months and months of sticking close to home, I sorely miss being out-and-about, seeking inspiration, looking at art. So the prospect of seeing so much contemporary work, in such a great venue, is beyond exciting.

Part of the de Young’s 125-anniversary celebrations, the exhibition will showcase the artwork “salon-style,” closely mounting pieces edge-to-edge and floor-to ceiling in nine galleries. The works reflect themes that include Black Lives Matter, the impact of the coronavirus, nature, abstraction, figures and portraits, as well as works inspired by surrealism. I’m guessing my category is abstraction; you can read more about my quilt here.

When shelter-in-place orders took effect in March, the museum conceived The de Young Open and announced a call for submissions. Artists from nine Bay Area counties—Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma—were invited to submit recent or newly created work through an online portal. In all, 6,188 artists entered 11,514 artworks. Fewer than 8 percent of the works submissions were selected by the jury of four Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco curators and Bay Area artists Mildred Howard, Hung Liu and Enrique Chagoya.

The artwork, which will be exhibited online as well as in the museum, will be available for sale with 100% of proceeds going directly to the artists.

That’s my 12″x12″ quilt “Summer Lightning” in this enticing promotional graphic! My piece is among nearly 500 works of art now on display for the upcoming 2020 SAQA Benefit Auction. You can preview the quilts here.

And this page will have details in the near future about the bidding process for the auction.

36-1/2″ wide x 37-1/2″ high

I’m honored that my quilt “Superbloom” is among 107 works of art chosen for online display by the Textile Study Group of New York. It’s in the 28th Members’ Gallery. With an eye-catching new design, TSGNY galleries are a beautiful way to view textile art. Read more about my quilt here.

A little background: Five days after the TSGNY sent out the Call for Entries for its Spring 2020 Gallery, New York State responded to the pandemic with a stay-at-home program for non-essential workers. Unable to go to studios, shop for materials, arrange photography or just get out and see something new, TSGNY members continued to do their work and fulfill their visions. Produced under these remarkable circumstances, the TSGNY’s largest gallery to date is all the more impressive.

Hat’s off to all the participating artists and to the tireless members who mounted this gallery.

“Seeing Red,” a quilt that protests the inhumane treatment of migrants at the U.S.–Mexico border, has been juried into “Form and Function: Fiber Arts for the 21st Century,” at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.

Mounted in the Hallway and Porcella Gallery, the exhibition is the museum’s Second Artist Members Biennial and is being installed in two parts:
October 20, 2019—November 24, 2019
November 27, 2019—January 12, 2020

Seeing Red will be in the first installation.

Juried by artist and curator Karen Gutfreund, Form and Function showcases works in both traditional and new media that emphasize art over craft with bold use of artistic elements—line, space, shape, form, texture, and color to tell an individual story. In a statement the museum said:

Fiber artists utilize a multitude of methods to bridge craft and design, invoke new artistic concepts, and alter or refresh views of fiber. Each of our SJMQT Artist’s Members brings a personal vision and sensibility to his or her cloth. We want to celebrate this diversity and this exhibition is intended to promote an appreciation of fiber arts in the broader community.
